Practical information: campus, transport, accommodation, dinner, guided tour, Nancy

  •  CAMPUS

The conference will take place at the Campus Lettres Sciences Humaines (Arts and Humanities Campus) in Nancy. The main entrance and official address of the campus is 23, boulevard Albert 1er, but there is also an entrance next to Place Godefroy de Bouillon which is close to one of the rooms we will be using, and also the closest to Nancy's railway station.

We will be using two rooms for panels:
   - room G04 on the ground floor of G block near the Place Godefroy de Bouillon entrance
   - room A104 on the first floor of A block, in the wing of the quadrangle that is closest to boulevard Albert 1er

We will be using an additional room, A015, for certain meals (see programme). A015 is on the ground floor of A block, directly accessible from the quadrangle.

  • RAILWAY STATION

It takes about ten minutes on foot to get from Nancy railway station to the campus: about 700 metres from the Place Thiers side (main) exit via the pedestrian short cut Passage de la Rame and then rue de l'Armée Patton, or about 600 metres from the Saint-Léon side exit via rue Saint-Léon and rue de l'Armée Patton.

Route on foot here.

  • AIRPORTS

Nancy does not have its own airport with commercial flights.

The closest airport with commercial flights is Lorraine Aéroport, about 40 km from the campus, with a limited offer of destinations (at the time of writing, Morocco, Algeria, some internal French flights e.g. Toulouse, Lyon).

The closest major airport is Luxembourg Airport, about 120 km to the north of Nancy (about 1h20m's drive by motorway all the way, in normal traffic conditions, but be wary of border traffic jams at rush hours).

There are regular buses from Luxembourg Airport to Luxembourg City railway station (about 20-30 minutes' journey), from which trains run to Nancy about once an hour (about an hour's journey direct, about 1h20m with a change in Metz).

The major airports of Paris, Paris Charles de Gaulle (Roissy) and Paris-Orly, are a considerable drive from Nancy (about 350 km). However, a flight could be combined with a Paris <-> Nancy journey by high speed train (TGV), which only takes around 1h30m. There is around one direct Paris-Nancy TGV every hour running from/to the central Parisian station Gare de l'Est. Public suburban transport from the two airports to Gare de l'Est is good but takes at least an hour.

Paris Charles de Gaulle airport actually contains a TGV station from which high speed trains run about six times a day, not directly to Nancy, but to a station called TGV Lorraine situated 35 km up the motorway north of Nancy. Shuttle buses from this station run to and from Nancy at least once per hour and the journey takes less than half an hour.

  • CAR

If you intend to drive to Nancy, the campus has a large car park reserved for personnel. Do contact us so that we can arrange access for you (automatic barrier/card swipe system).

  •  HOTELS

List of hotels: https://www.nancy-tourisme.fr/en/prepare-your-stay/stay-in-nancy/

For participants on a tight budget, at the time of writing, we have been informed that a student residence which is only about 7-10 minutes' walk from the campus, the Pavillon Bichat, will soon be taking reservations again, as part of the Bed & Crous affordable short stay accommodation service for academics and students. Bookings are not yet open, but the residence provides rooms for €30-€40 per night which are not luxurious but perfectly pleasant and include their own shower. As soon as availability dates surface, we will let you know: watch this space...

Participants in campus conferences often stay at the following nearby hotels (and have not, to our knowledge, been unhappy with them):

ibis Styles Nancy Centre-Gare About 10 minutes' walk from the campus and 5 minutes from the station; around €100 a night.

Revotel Nancy Centre-Gare Same distances from campus and station; from around €70 a night.

Hôtel de Guise A three-star hotel in the pleasant setting of Nancy's picturesque old town, somewhat upmarket from the previous suggestions but depending on demand, often reasonably priced, from around €80 a night. Walking times a little further, but through pleasant parts of town: 20 minutes/1.4 km from campus, 15 minutes/1.1 km from the station.

  • DINNER

Thursday evening dinner for all participants (included in registration fee) will take place at Grand Café Foy at 1 Place Stanislas, starting at 19:30.

Friday evening main conference dinner (only for participants having reserved) will take place at l’Excelsior at 50 rue Henri Poincaré, starting at 19:30.

  • GUIDED TOUR

After the conlusion of the conference on Saturday afternoon, there will be a guided tour (for participants having reserved) to discover Art Nouveau in Nancy.

We will meet our tour guide in front of l'Excelsior (50, rue Henri Poincaré) at 15.45. The tour will end by 17.15. We will walk from the train station to the Villa Majorelle. The area features prestigious apartment buildings and private villas, including the magnificent Villa Majorelle that was recently restored. Please bring your umbrellas.
